Paul claims the inspiration to this song came from a Picasso painting. “There was this Picasso print on the wall, of an old man playing the guitar. And I looked at it all week and towards the end of the week I thought, “what cords he playing?” you know, on the guitar, “what is he playing?” and I noticed he just had two fingers [on the guitar], just two fingers there and so I thought I would try and see, you know, if the cords would sound any good, “Oh, that’s nice!”, you know, so then I tried to use that as the inspiration and tried to write a song that only had to use “two fingers”
